Turning Chaos into Clarity

Month-end ran on memory and overtime. A written close calendar turned it from an event into a routine.

The challenge

Books closed late and the numbers moved after publication. Reconciliations carried old differences nobody owned, and the close depended on whoever had run the last one.

What we did

  1. Set daily entry standards with cut-off times and source-document rules.

  2. Built reconciliation routines for bank, vendor, customer, inter-company and stock.

  3. Aged every unreconciled difference and assigned it an owner and a clearance target.

  4. Published a close checklist and a fixed close calendar.
